A 35-year-old Gainesville man was arrested after authorities say he allegedly threatened a victim with a firearm and a baseball bat while demanding money at a residence in northeast Gainesville. The suspect, James Nickell, was booked on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a reported armed disturbance on Tuesday evening. The victim told authorities that Nickell had come to the residence earlier in the day before leaving, then allegedly returned and began demanding money while holding a baseball bat. Nickell also allegedly gestured toward his waistband and claimed he had a pistol, threatening to use the weapon against the victim and the victim's dog if the money was not provided. A witness intervened and pushed Nickell out of the residence, at which point the victim called 911. Deputies later located and arrested Nickell near the 5900 block of NE 78th Lane.
