More than 200 people lined up to celebrate the grand opening of the new Bricks & Minifigs Lego store in Gainesville's Newberry Square plaza. The store, which buys, sells and trades new and used Lego products, saw hundreds of customers arrive well after the 1 p.m. opening, with many eager to purchase specific Lego sets and minifigures.
Why it matters
The opening of Bricks & Minifigs represents the continued popularity of Lego products, especially among adult collectors, and the demand for specialty retail stores catering to Lego enthusiasts in the Gainesville area.
The details
Owner Kurt Kazlauskas, 49, said he was overwhelmed by the turnout, with around 200-300 people waiting outside before the store opened at 1281 NW 76th Blvd. The grand opening featured a live radio broadcast, free donuts and coffee, and an appearance from Batman and the Batmobile. Kazlauskas said it took about 10 months to build the store's inventory, much of which came from Facebook Marketplace and vendors associated with Bricks & Minifigs, which has over 100 locations across the U.S. and Canada.
