The Minnesota Twins have signed veteran right-handed pitcher Julian Merryweather to a minor-league contract with a non-roster invite to spring training. Merryweather, who has 152 games of major league experience over the past six seasons, is looking to make the Twins' roster after spending time with the Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, and Milwaukee Brewers organizations.

Why it matters

The Twins are in rebuilding mode after trading away much of their major league roster at the deadline last season, leaving their bullpen in particular with a lot of uncertainty. Merryweather will get a chance to compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster and provide veteran depth to a team in transition.

The details

Merryweather, 34, broke into the majors with the Blue Jays in 2020 and has spent time with the Cubs and Brewers organizations in recent years. Last season with the Cubs, he posted a 5.79 ERA in 21 relief appearances, striking out 15 and walking 11 batters. After being released by the Brewers in May, Merryweather elected minor-league free agency and will now get a chance to make the Twins' roster in spring training.

  • Merryweather signed his minor-league deal with the Twins on February 12, 2026.
  • He will report to the Twins' spring training facility in Fort Myers, Florida.
