Royal Caribbean has announced its newest Icon-class cruise ship, Hero of the Seas, which will join the fleet in 2027. The 248,663-gross-ton vessel will be based in Miami and offer 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, with a capacity of 5,654 guests and 2,350 crew. Hero of the Seas will feature expanded water attractions, including new waterslides, an adults-only pool area, and the largest swim-up bar at sea. The ship will also offer a variety of new dining venues, such as the upscale Orleans Parish Supper Club and the immersive Royal Railway - Hero Station.
Why it matters
The introduction of Hero of the Seas is part of Royal Caribbean's ongoing efforts to innovate and expand its offerings for family cruises. The Icon-class ships have been well-received, and the new vessel aims to build on that success by providing even more water-based activities, dining options, and unique accommodations like the Ultimate Family Treehouse suite. This investment in the cruise line's fleet signals its confidence in the continued demand for family-friendly vacations at sea.
The details
Hero of the Seas will feature nine pools, including the new Coconut Cove pool with views of the ship's Central Park area, and the adults-only Hideaway with the largest swim-up bar at sea. The ship's waterpark, Category 6, will include two new family raft slides, one of which will be the first funnel raft slide at sea. Other returning attractions include the FlowRider surf simulator, Adrenaline Peak rock-climbing wall, and sports courts. In terms of dining, the new Orleans Parish Supper Club will offer a multi-course Cajun and Creole-inspired experience with live jazz, while the Royal Railway - Hero Station will transport diners to different global destinations through an immersive train car setting. The ship will also feature expanded family suite options, including the three-deck Ultimate Family Treehouse with a private whirlpool and two-deck teen space.
- Hero of the Seas will debut in August 2027, sailing out of Miami.
- Icon of the Seas will move to Galveston in August 2027 to make room for Hero of the Seas in Miami.
- Legend of the Seas will sail winters from Fort Lauderdale and summers in the Mediterranean starting in November 2026.
- Star of the Seas will continue sailing weeklong itineraries out of Port Canaveral.
