The Toronto Blue Jays have reassigned five players to their minor league camp as they finalize their 26-man roster for Opening Day. The players sent down include right-handed pitchers Chad Dallas, Ryan Jennings, and CJ Van Eyk, catcher Aaron Parker, and infielder Cutter Coffey.
Why it matters
These roster moves are part of the Blue Jays' process of trimming down their spring training roster and determining their final 26-man squad for the start of the 2026 MLB season. While none of the five players were considered locks to make the big league club, they each had a chance to impress and earn a spot on the Opening Day roster.
The details
None of the five players reassigned were expected to crack the Blue Jays' 26-man roster, but each had a reason to be in big league camp this spring. Right-hander Chad Dallas is working his way back from an injury that cost him the entire 2025 season, while Ryan Jennings and CJ Van Eyk were looking to build on their minor league success. Infielder Cutter Coffey and catcher Aaron Parker were also hoping to show they are close to being MLB-ready.
- The Blue Jays announced the roster moves on March 13, 2026.
- Opening Day for the Blue Jays is scheduled for March 27, 2026 against the Oakland Athletics.
The players
Chad Dallas
A right-handed pitcher in the Blue Jays organization since the 2021 draft, Dallas is working his way back from an injury that cost him the entire 2025 season.
Ryan Jennings
A 26-year-old right-handed pitcher who split the 2025 season between Double-A and Triple-A, Jennings has a four-pitch mix headlined by a 95 mph sinker.
CJ Van Eyk
A 2020 second-round pick by the Blue Jays, Van Eyk had a rough outing just two days ago when he was called in as an emergency starter after José Berríos was scratched.
Cutter Coffey
A 21-year-old infielder acquired from the Red Sox in 2024, Coffey had a strong 2025 season in High-A and has an above-average arm that profiles well at third base.
Aaron Parker
A 23-year-old catcher with plus raw power and developing contact skills, Parker was never going to break through this spring with Alejandro Kirk and Tyler Heineman ahead of him on the depth chart.
What’s next
More cuts are still coming over the next two weeks as the Blue Jays finalize their 26-man roster for Opening Day on March 27.
The takeaway
While these five players were not able to crack the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster, their time in big league camp this spring was valuable experience as they continue to develop and work towards their MLB debuts.
