The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department has opened a new multi-sport turf field at the Orange Bowl Complex in Glades Pioneer Park. The project, supported by a Community Development Block Grant, converts an existing grass field to synthetic turf, allowing for increased usage and reduced maintenance costs.
Why it matters
The new turf field enhances recreational opportunities and expands athletic programming for residents and visitors in the Glades community, which has historically lacked access to high-quality sports facilities.
The details
The conversion of Field 5 from natural grass to synthetic turf allows for significantly increased field use, as turf fields do not require the annual 10-week renovation period typical of grass fields. The new surface also provides a quicker return to play following rainstorms due to improved drainage and helps reduce annual maintenance costs. With two synthetic turf fields now available at the Orange Bowl Complex, the park can host more football games, tournaments, and large-scale athletic events.
- The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
