VISU Contemporary in Miami Beach is hosting an exhibition of works by Brazilian-born, Miami-based artist Rubem Robierb titled 'Roots to Fly'. The exhibition, on view through March 15, features nearly 30 pieces across sculpture, painting and mixed media that reflect on Robierb's childhood in Brazil and explore themes of memory, identity and imagination.
Why it matters
The exhibition continues VISU Contemporary's reputation for showcasing ambitious and emotionally resonant contemporary art. Robierb's work also extends into the public realm, with two large-scale sculptures on Miami's Lincoln Road.
The details
The exhibition's title 'Roots to Fly' speaks to Robierb's central metaphor of the balance between roots, which ground us in origin and history, and wings, the inner force that allows reinvention, resilience and flight. It includes a smaller-scale version of his monumental sculpture 'The Winged Canoe', which features a young boy modeled after the artist himself holding a lamp symbolizing inner light.
- The exhibition 'Roots to Fly' is on view at VISU Contemporary through March 15, 2026.
- Robierb's design was recently selected as Miami's Official Host City Poster for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
