The Washington Commanders have agreed to sign outside linebacker K'Lavon Chaisson to a one-year, $12 million contract, according to an NFL Network report. Chaisson, 26, is joining his fourth team in four seasons after a standout 2025 campaign with the New England Patriots where he set career highs in sacks, tackles for loss, quarterback hits, and forced fumbles.
Why it matters
The Commanders are looking to bolster their defense after a disappointing 2025 season, and the addition of Chaisson provides them with a proven pass rusher who can help improve their pass defense. Chaisson's signing comes on the heels of the team adding other defensive pieces like Odafe Oweh and Leo Chenal in free agency.
The details
Chaisson was a first-round pick (20th overall) by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. Over his four-year career, he has recorded 17.5 sacks, 49 quarterback hits, 136 tackles, three forced fumbles, and one interception in 88 games (25 starts) with the Jaguars, Las Vegas Raiders, and Patriots. His breakout 2025 season with the Patriots saw him set new career highs in several key defensive categories.
