As part of the America 250 celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Metropolitan Washington Airports has unveiled immersive cherry blossom-inspired installations at Ronald Reagan National and Dulles International airports. The displays feature an interactive photo spot modeled after the famous chair at the Lincoln Memorial, as well as an exhibition called "Friendship in Bloom" that celebrates Japan's gift of 250 cherry blossom trees to the USA.
Why it matters
The cherry blossom-themed activations bring a distinctly Washington, D.C. touch to the airports, offering travelers a unique cultural experience as they pass through the nation's capital. The exhibits also highlight the ongoing cultural exchange between the US and Japan, fostering appreciation between the two countries.
The details
The airport installations were designed and built in-house by the marketing and DCA Shops teams. The cherry blossom backdrop and branding were created by the marketing team, while the chair prop was crafted by the DCA Shops team. The "Friendship in Bloom" exhibition is organized by the Embassy of Japan and culminates an exchange project between American and Japanese elementary students.
