The Washington Commanders have agreed to a new two-year contract extension with star left tackle Laremy Tunsil. The deal is worth $60.2 million in guaranteed money and includes a record-setting $32.5 million signing bonus for an offensive lineman.
Why it matters
Retaining Tunsil, one of the league's premier left tackles, was a critical priority for the Commanders as they look to build around their young core on offense. Keeping Tunsil protects the blind side of quarterback Sam Howell and helps ensure the Commanders' offensive line remains one of the best in the NFL.
The details
The new contract extension keeps Tunsil in Washington through the 2028 season. The $32.5 million signing bonus is the highest ever for an offensive lineman, surpassing the previous record of $30 million. Tunsil has been selected to the Pro Bowl in three of the last four seasons and is considered one of the top left tackles in the league.
- The contract extension was agreed to on March 9, 2026.
