Frank DeFlippo and Angela MacCallum, the owners of the James Madison House in North Madison, have opened a new restaurant called AristoKraft Kitchen in Killingworth. The new eatery, which seats 24, will offer a menu of homemade Italian dishes like deep dish Sicilian pizza, meatballs, and chicken cutlets, as well as breakfast sandwiches, salads, and soups. The couple spent over a year renovating the former Cooking Company space, giving it a modern farmhouse look with reclaimed barnwood and handcrafted details.

Why it matters

The opening of AristoKraft Kitchen represents the continued growth and evolution of the local dining scene in the Killingworth area. As a second venture for the owners of the popular James Madison House, the new restaurant demonstrates their commitment to the community and their ability to successfully expand their business. The focus on homemade Italian fare and a cozy, inviting atmosphere also aligns with broader consumer trends towards comfort food and experiential dining.

The details

To transform the former Cooking Company space, DeFlippo and MacCallum undertook an extensive renovation process. They installed new floors and drywall, redid the ceiling with a handcrafted lattice pattern, and refinished the existing wainscoting. They also uncovered a second fireplace that had been covered up, and incorporated it into the design to create cozy nooks for guests. The couple did much of the labor themselves, using their DIY skills from previous projects.

  • The AristoKraft Kitchen opened on February 10, 2026.
  • DeFlippo and MacCallum purchased the former Cooking Company building in 2024.
