Gold Bond, a leading independent mattress manufacturer, has introduced a new pocket coil construction option for some of its best-selling mattress collections. The new 630-pocket coil unit from Leggett & Platt allows the mattresses to be compatible with adjustable bases, which have become increasingly popular with consumers. The change will not result in any additional costs for dealers or consumers.
Why it matters
The move to pocket coil construction is seen as an upgrade that enhances comfort and motion separation, making the mattresses more suitable for use with adjustable bases. This aligns with the growing consumer preference for adjustable sleep solutions, allowing Gold Bond to offer a better value proposition to its retail partners and end consumers.
The details
Gold Bond has extended the pocket coil option to some of its most popular budget-friendly lines like Westport, Greenwich, Litchfield and Classic, now known as Newport, Chatham, Andover and Concord. The new coil system also allows for a choice of comfort in the high-volume Cambridge collection, and led to the creation of a new softer version of the two-sided Mystic mattress that is adjustable friendly. The pocket coil units feature edge-to-edge steel construction, a detail that has long set Gold Bond mattresses apart in terms of durability.

What they’re saying
“The advantage of using pocketed coil construction is that it is ideal for use with adjustable bases and also offers enhanced motion separation in the mattresses.”
— Skip Naboicheck, President, Gold Bond
“Pocketed coil is perceived as a better spring system and is typically associated with premium product. While the knotted Bonnell coils we have long used in our budget-friendly collections are known for great durability, they are not suitable for use with adjustable bases which have become a key element in today's sleep solutions.”
— Bob Naboicheck, CEO, Gold Bond
What’s next
Gold Bond plans to continue offering the knotted Bonnell coil construction as an option for dealers who prefer it, particularly for mattresses produced for colleges and universities.
The takeaway
Gold Bond's move to incorporate pocket coil technology into its more affordable mattress collections demonstrates the company's commitment to staying ahead of evolving consumer preferences and providing better value to its retail partners and customers. The adjustable base-friendly upgrades position Gold Bond to capitalize on the growing demand for customizable sleep solutions.
