This spectacular 4,500-square-foot mountain retreat in Steamboat Springs, Colorado was designed by Vertical Arts Architecture to seamlessly blend contemporary architecture with the rugged alpine landscape. Thoughtfully positioned on 35 private acres, the home offers uninterrupted views of the Sleeping Giant mountain range through oversized windows that frame the picturesque scenery.
Why it matters
In an era of increasing development in mountain regions, this home stands out as an example of how modern design can harmonize with nature, creating a peaceful and inviting retreat that respects the surrounding environment.
The details
The open-concept layout was carefully choreographed to maximize the views, with a dramatic dual-sided fireplace anchoring the main living areas. Natural materials like rough-hewn stone, patina metal, and character-grade wood were incorporated to balance the home's clean, contemporary lines. The 'pod concept' entry hall immediately frames the Sleeping Giant view, while the kitchen's west-facing sink allows the owners to gaze at the mountains while working. Throughout the home, low-profile furnishings ensure the windows and mountain vistas remain the focal point.
- The home was designed in 2025 and completed in 2026.
