Yampatika, a Colorado-based environmental education nonprofit, is hosting a series of Adult Snow School outings on February 26 and March 8. The three-hour outdoor programs will teach participants aged 18 and older about the science of snow, including how to dig a snow pit, study snow-water equivalency, and conduct a column test. The events also include a 1-mile snowshoe tour.

Why it matters

These educational snow programs provide adults in the Steamboat Springs area with unique opportunities to learn about the local winter environment and snowpack conditions, which can be especially valuable given the unpredictable nature of recent winters in the region.

The details

The Adult Snow School outings will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the scheduled dates. Participants will explore how the current winter season is affecting the local snowpack through hands-on activities. The program cost is $100 per person, and reservations are required through the Yampatika website.

  • The first Adult Snow School outing will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2026.
