The Lady Dinos softball team hosted the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs on Wednesday, falling 6-4 in a low-scoring contest. This came after a high-scoring 19-14 loss against the Emery Lady Spartans earlier in the week. Despite taking an early 2-0 lead, the Dinos were unable to hold off a late Gunnison rally and ultimately came up short.

Why it matters

The Lady Dinos have had a tough start to the season, dropping two straight games after a promising start. This loss to Gunnison highlights the team's need to find more consistency on both offense and defense as they prepare for an upcoming tournament in Richfield.

The details

In the bottom of the first, Shayla Penovich's single brought home Brailee Peterson and Aleece Ardohain to give Carbon a 2-0 lead. The Dinos were quiet until the fourth, when Kadence Vea's single scored Kennlee Kennedy and Vea to put Carbon up 4-3. But Gunnison answered with three runs in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead that they would hold onto for the win. Alexa Jones went 3-5 for the Dinos, while Penovich, Kennedy, and Vea also had multiple hits.
