At Saturday's home opener against the North Carolina Courage, Gotham FC players received their 2025 NWSL Championship rings in a post-match ceremony. The ceremony included speeches from former Gotham player Ali Krieger, club owner Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, General Manager Yael Averbuch West, and coach Juan Carlos Amorós. Gotham went on an unexpected playoff run last fall after only placing eighth in the regular season, beating Shield winners Kanas City Current, the Orlando Pride, and the Washington Spirit to claim their second title in three years.
Why it matters
Gotham FC's back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2025 have solidified the team as a rising power in the NWSL, defying expectations and building a loyal fanbase in the New York/New Jersey area. The ring ceremony serves as a celebration of the team's accomplishments and a motivator for continued success as they aim to establish a 'dynasty' in the league.
The details
The championship rings feature the Gotham FC crest with two stars, as well as each player's name and number, and the motto 'Always building, never finished.' USWNT star defender and Gotham FC captain Tierna Davidson made her return to the pitch on Saturday after nearly a year away, recovering from an ACL injury. Gotham also made several offseason acquisitions, including highly anticipated rookies Jordynn Dudley and Andrea Kitahata, as well as midfielder Savannah McCaskill and Norwegian star forward Guro Reiten from Chelsea FC.
