Girls thINC Outside the Box Brings STEM Lessons to Colorado Homes

Girls Inc. of Metro Denver offers special Girls & Science edition of its educational activity boxes.

Published on Mar. 10, 2026

Girls Inc. of Metro Denver is partnering with CBS Colorado for Girls & Science, a month-long celebration of women in STEM fields. As part of this, Girls Inc. has created a special edition of its Girls thINC Outside the Box program, which delivers hundreds of boxes filled with STEM-themed activities, information, and supplies directly to girls' homes across Colorado.

Why it matters

The Girls thINC Outside the Box program aims to make STEM education accessible to girls who may not be able to attend in-person events and activities. By bringing the lessons and materials directly to their homes, Girls Inc. is ensuring that girls across Colorado have the opportunity to explore their interests in science, technology, engineering, and math.

The details

The boxes this year are themed around animals, with activities like an animal x-ray. Each box contains a book, a magazine, suggested activities, and the necessary supplies. Girls Inc. will mail out hundreds of the boxes, and also give away 500 during the second Saturday event at CSU Spur on March 14.

  • Girls Inc. will distribute the boxes throughout March 2026 as part of the Girls & Science celebration.
  • The second Saturday event at CSU Spur, where 500 boxes will be given away, is on March 14, 2026.

What they’re saying

“The box this year is themed animals, so inside the box it's all about learning about animals [and] their habitat. One of the activities is an animal x-ray. So, just fun activities for girls to learn and use their STEM skills.”

— Kayla Garcia, President & CEO of Girls Inc. of Metro Denver (CBS News Colorado)

“Girls thINC Outside the Box is such a critical part of Girls & Science because we know so many girls can't get to the museum, can't get to some of the activations around the community, so we want to make sure that we are sending boxes to girls around the State of Colorado.”

— Kayla Garcia, President & CEO of Girls Inc. of Metro Denver (CBS News Colorado)

“We inspire all our girls to be strong, smart, and bold, and with that, our programming is to help teach our girls to embrace what they love and embrace what they might not know.”
