Workers, union activists, business owners and grassroots organization leaders from Colorado Worker Rights United (CWRU) will testify in favor of the Worker Protection Act in front of the House Business Affairs & Labor Committee on February 5th. The act aims to address the affordability crisis by making it easier for workers to form unions and collectively bargain for higher wages and better working conditions.
Why it matters
Unions are seen as a key way to address the affordability crisis in Colorado, as they allow workers to stand together and negotiate for higher wages, safer workplaces, and a better quality of life. However, billionaire-backed corporations and politicians who listen to them have created a system that makes it incredibly hard for workers to form unions.
The details
The Worker Protection Act hearing will feature testimony from a variety of workers, including ski patrollers, baristas, social workers, servers, medical assistants, and cooks, as well as local business owners, labor union leaders and experts, and community leaders. The goal is to modernize Colorado's labor laws to make it easier for workers to organize and empower themselves.

What’s next
The judge in the case will decide on Tuesday whether or not to allow Walker Reed Quinn out on bail.
The takeaway
This hearing highlights the ongoing struggle for workers in Colorado to organize and collectively bargain for better wages and working conditions. The outcome of the Worker Protection Act could have significant implications for the state's labor landscape and the ability of workers to address the affordability crisis.
