A group of 14 former Texas A&M students from the Northern Colorado A&M Club spent a morning picking up litter and trash around the Berthoud Recreation Center and Waggener Park. The annual service project is part of the university's larger 'The Big Event' where thousands of students volunteer locally, and alumni clubs across the country organize their own community service initiatives.

Why it matters

The volunteer cleanup effort by the Texas A&M alumni club helps maintain the natural beauty and cleanliness of Berthoud's public parks and recreation areas, which are important community assets. It also demonstrates the university's commitment to service and the ongoing engagement of its alumni network with their local communities.

The details

The group of 14 former Texas A&M students, hailing from towns across Northern Colorado including Berthoud, Windsor, Johnstown, Timnath, and Fort Collins, spent two hours collecting a large amount of trash and litter that had accumulated in the parks. They were surprised by how much waste they were able to gather, underscoring the need for community members to be more mindful about properly disposing of trash when using the facilities.
