The album was recorded on analog gear with the musicians largely in one room, capturing a classic Memphis soul sound inspired by Stax and Hi Records, as well as artists like Mavis Staples, Sharon Jones, James Brown, and Aretha Franklin. As a multi-instrumentalist, Collier wrote the songs, produced the album, arranged the horns and all instrumental and vocal parts, and plays acoustic and electric guitars, alto and tenor saxophones, flute, and provides lead and background vocals.
