The Gospel Center Rescue Mission has unveiled a new three-story, 110-bed facility in downtown Stockton that will offer addiction recovery programs and short-term housing and support for individuals recovering from medical issues or hospital stays. The center received funding from multiple sources, including the Health Plan of San Joaquin and San Joaquin County.
Why it matters
The new facility aims to provide comprehensive support services for Stockton's unhoused population, addressing both addiction recovery and recuperative care needs. This investment reflects a broader effort to reduce the long-term costs of homelessness on the healthcare, law enforcement, and justice systems, while also creating safer neighborhoods and stronger communities.
The details
The New Life Program Multi-Purpose Center includes dorm rooms, shower rooms, laundry facilities, and a classroom area. The residential addiction treatment initiative offered by GCRM consists of a first and second phase, each lasting six months in a residential setting, followed by a one-year third phase focused on bridge housing to help participants transition back into stable community living. The center also has a dedicated space for the GCRM Recuperative Care Program, which provides short-term housing and support for individuals recovering from medical issues or hospital stays.
- The new facility was unveiled in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, February 27, 2026.
- 24 men are scheduled to move into the second floor of the facility on Monday to begin their first phase of the addiction treatment initiative.
- Nearly a dozen men are currently living on the first floor in recuperative care.
