Graff Family Vineyards, a small Sonoma winery, has released a limited-production dessert wine called July Muscat. The wine is a blend of four different Muscat grape varieties developed at UC-Davis in the 1950s and is grown in the Chalone appellation of Monterey County. The 2007 vintage is described as incredibly floral on the nose with ripe peach and apricot flavors and a long, lingering finish.

Why it matters

Graff Family Vineyards is known for its small-batch, specialty wines that are produced as a fundraiser for the Richard H. Graff Scholarship Fund, supporting wine and food education. The July Muscat is a unique offering that showcases the winery's commitment to experimenting with lesser-known grape varieties.

The details

The July Muscat is a 100% Muscat wine that is fermented in stainless steel and aged for 10 months, with two-thirds in steel and one-third in French oak barrels, 20% of which are new. The wine has an alcohol content of 11.3% and a residual sugar level of 10%, making it a sweet table wine.
