With most local wrestling teams taking a break last week to prepare for the postseason, there were few changes in the latest state rankings. Only one of the eight local wrestlers ranked in the top 50 statewide moved up, with Windsor senior Max Solorio climbing one spot to No. 40 in the 175-pound class. The rest of the local contingent, including top-10 state wrestler Ukiah senior Jordan Schwarm, maintained their rankings ahead of the upcoming North Coast Section qualifiers and championships.
Why it matters
The lack of movement in the state rankings indicates the local wrestlers have been consistent in their performance and are well-positioned heading into the postseason tournaments, where they will look to advance to the state championships.
The details
Ukiah senior Jordan Schwarm remains the top-ranked local wrestler, holding steady at No. 7 in the state and No. 2 in the North Coast Section in the 215-pound class. Other local wrestlers maintaining their state rankings include Cardinal Newman senior Jonah Bertoli at No. 15 in 175 pounds, Windsor sophomore Joey Guanella at No. 18 in 120 pounds, and Santa Rosa senior Antonio Garaventa at No. 24 in 113 pounds.
- The North Bay and Vine Valley Athletic Leagues held their individual NCS qualifiers on Saturday.
- The top performers from the NCS qualifiers will advance to the NCS Divisional Tournaments next weekend at Novato and Clear Lake.
- The top finishers from the NCS Divisional Tournaments will advance to the NCS Championships at James Logan the following week.
