About My Eyes, a newly formed California nonprofit organization, has officially launched with a mission to make eye health education accessible, empowering and culturally relevant for every community member in Los Angeles, regardless of age, background or income level. Founded by Dr. Irina Yakubin, a Santa Monica-based optometrist and community health advocate, the nonprofit focuses on bridging the education gap around vision, eye diseases and preventive care.
Why it matters
Many people lack basic knowledge about the importance of annual eye exams and preventive eye care. About My Eyes aims to empower individuals to take charge of their eye health before problems become a crisis, particularly in underserved LA communities that may face barriers to accessing quality vision care.
The details
About My Eyes offers educational workshops, digital resources, collaborative programs with local organizations, and multilingual content designed for diverse LA communities. The nonprofit also aligns with Dr. Yakubin's newly published patient-education book, 'The Eye Care Guide,' with a portion of proceeds supporting About My Eyes' community initiatives. The organization will begin outreach to LA-based youth programs, health networks, local chambers, and corporate partners to co-develop accessible programming.

What they’re saying
“We know to see a doctor once a year, and to brush our teeth, but many people have no idea that their eyes need annual exams as well, in order to protect their vision. About My Eyes exists to empower individuals with clear, practical education—so people can take charge of their eye health long before a problem becomes a crisis.”
