The Cal Poly Men's Tennis team continued their strong season, sweeping a weekend homestand against UC Davis and UC San Diego to remain unbeaten in Big West Conference play. The Mustangs secured 4-2 and 4-1 victories over the Aggies and Tritons respectively, improving their overall record to 12-7 on the year.

Why it matters

Cal Poly's success this season marks a significant turnaround from their 2-4 conference record the previous year. The Mustangs' current 3-0 Big West start has them tied for first place in the conference standings, putting them in prime position to secure a high seed for the postseason tournament.

The details

In the 4-2 win over UC Davis, the Mustangs were led by strong doubles play, winning the point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Freshman Jovan Lubbe then cruised to a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles to give Cal Poly a 2-0 lead. The Aggies fought back to tie it at 2-2, but the Mustangs clinched the match with wins from Luc Hoeijmans at No. 3 and Jack Cross at No. 5. Against UC San Diego, Cal Poly again won the doubles point and then won three of the four singles matches, including a comeback victory from Lubbe at No. 1 to clinch the 4-1 win.
