District Attorney's Office partners with community groups to help reduce barriers to employment and housing.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office is collaborating with several community organizations to host a free clinic on March 6 that will assist eligible individuals in clearing their criminal records. The goal is to help reduce barriers to employment and housing that a criminal record can create, even for minor or old offenses.

Why it matters

Having a criminal record, even for minor offenses, can significantly hinder a person's ability to find a job or secure housing. This clinic aims to help remove those barriers and provide more opportunities for successful reentry into the community, which in turn can reduce recidivism rates.

The details

The SLO Clean Slate Clinic will be held on March 6 and is a joint effort between the SLO County District Attorney's Office, Probation Department, SLO Defenders, Restorative Partners, People's Justice Project, California Rural Legal Assistance, and SLO College of Law. Eligible individuals can make an appointment to receive services or walk in to the SLO County Law Library located at 1050 Monterey Street.

What they’re saying

“Criminal records can make it very difficult for people to get jobs and housing after incarceration. The added stability that comes from obtaining employment and housing helps reduce rates of recidivism which improves the overall quality of life in our community.”

— Dan Dow, San Luis Obispo County District Attorney
