Kioxia has begun shipping evaluation samples of its new UFS 5.0 embedded flash memory devices, designed for next-generation mobile applications. The UFS 5.0 standard utilizes MIPI M-PHY version 6.0 and UniPro version 3.0 to enable interface speeds up to 46.6 Gbps per lane, allowing for up to 10.8 GB/s of effective read/write performance.

The details
Kioxia's UFS 5.0 evaluation samples incorporate a new in-house controller and the company's latest BiCS FLASH generation 8 3D flash memory. The packages have been redesigned to a compact 7.5 x 13 mm size to improve board space efficiency. The samples support capacities of 512 GB and 1 TB, with shipments of the 512 GB version starting on February 24 and the 1 TB version scheduled for March.
