James Tibbs III, the Dodgers' No. 10 prospect, hit three home runs and matched a career-high with four hits for Triple-A Oklahoma City in a loss to Las Vegas on Saturday night. Tibbs' three homers pushed his total to seven in his first eight games, the most in organized baseball. The 23-year-old slugger has been on a tear, hitting safely in all eight games and slashing .514/.564/1.286 with 12 extra-base hits, 15 runs, and 13 RBIs.

Why it matters

Tibbs' historic start to the season has put him on the map as one of the hottest hitters in the minors. After being traded twice last year, the 2024 first-round pick is making the most of his opportunity with the Dodgers and showing why he was a highly touted prospect.

The details

Tibbs went deep three times on Saturday, hitting homers of 450 feet, 426 feet, and 427 feet. He also recorded a single in the game, tallying exit velocities of at least 104 mph on each of his balls put in play. Tibbs' performance puts him in elite company, as there have only been eight instances of Major Leaguers (in the Statcast Era) having five balls register 104 mph or greater in a single game.
