The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team overcame a poor first-half performance at the free throw line to pull away late and defeat Point Loma 73-58 in an NCAA Division II Sweet 16 game. The Pioneers, who were just 3-for-10 at the line in the first half, made 8 of 9 free throws in the final 1:23 to score the final nine points and secure the victory. Cal State East Bay, the California Collegiate Athletic Association's Player of the Year Tyree Campbell, led the way with a game-high 20 points.
