The 59th annual Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival (NCCBF) is returning to San Francisco's Japantown on the weekends of April 11-12 and April 18-19, 2026. This year's festival will feature comedian Atsuko Okatsuka as the Parade Grand Marshal, as well as a variety of cultural performances, food vendors, art exhibits, and other festivities celebrating Japanese and Japanese American heritage.
Why it matters
The Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival is one of the largest celebrations of Japanese and Japanese American culture on the West Coast, drawing over 220,000 attendees annually. As one of only three remaining Japantowns in the United States, the festival's continued success is important for preserving this unique cultural community in San Francisco.
The details
The festival will expand onto Sutter Street for the first weekend to accommodate more vendors and food booths, as well as provide access to the main stage at the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California. Programming will include local art and craft vendors, a non-profit food bazaar, a Sapporo Beer Garden, cultural exhibits, and live musical and dance performances. The festival will also feature the iconic Taru Mikoshi and Kanda Mikoshi portable shrines in the Grand Parade.
