Lucid Motors has debuted a new robotaxi concept vehicle called the 'Lucid Lunar' at an investor event in New York City. The Lunar is a two-seat autonomous vehicle without a steering wheel or pedals, built on the same platform as Lucid's upcoming mid-size electric cars. The company also announced plans to collaborate with Uber on an autonomous version of its Gravity SUV, as well as introduce subscription-based autonomous driving features for its DreamDrive Pro system.
Why it matters
Lucid's focus on autonomous driving technology and robotaxi services signals the company's ambitions to expand beyond just manufacturing electric vehicles. By developing dedicated self-driving platforms and exploring partnerships with ride-hailing companies, Lucid is positioning itself to potentially generate significant revenue from autonomous mobility services to complement its core EV business.
The details
The Lucid Lunar concept was unveiled at the company's investor day, where executives detailed Lucid's plans to push deeper into autonomy. While the Lunar is not currently in active development, Lucid said it would debut the vehicle after launching its upcoming mid-size EV models. Lucid also announced an agreement with Uber to collaborate on an autonomous version of the Gravity SUV, which will launch on Uber's network in the San Francisco area by the end of 2026. Additionally, Lucid revealed plans to offer monthly subscriptions for its DreamDrive Pro autonomous driving system, with pricing ranging from $69 to $199 per month depending on the level of capability.
