NVIDIA has announced a new developer-focused feature for its GeForce NOW cloud gaming service called Cloud Playtest. This cloud-based tool allows game developers and publishers to securely conduct internal, external, and press-related playtests for upcoming titles, even years before their release. Cloud Playtest provides access to powerful RTX hardware, enables gameplay capture and data collection, and helps with optimization - all while ensuring privacy and security.

Why it matters

Cloud Playtest democratizes game testing and quality assurance, giving developers a powerful cloud-based platform to gather feedback and optimize their titles globally, even when teams are distributed across different cities and countries. This is especially important as remote work becomes more common in the industry.

The details

Cloud Playtest is already being used by major game companies like 2K, Activision, Bethesda, Frontier, Techland, Ubisoft, Warner Bros. Games, and Xbox Game Studios. The service allows developers to test builds of games that are 2-3 years away from release, providing access to a range of GeForce RTX hardware including the powerful RTX 5080. In addition to gameplay streaming, Cloud Playtest can capture webcam input, controller data, and rendering information to aid in optimization efforts.

  • Cloud Playtest was announced at the 2026 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
