Samsung's latest One UI 8.5 beta update for the Galaxy S25 series now includes support for partial screen recording. This new feature gives users the ability to record a specific section of their phone's display, rather than the entire screen. The partial recording option is automatically detected by the software, but users can also manually define the area they want to capture.
Why it matters
The ability to record only a portion of the screen is a useful upgrade, especially on larger smartphone displays. This feature has previously been available on other platforms like OnePlus phones, ChromeOS, macOS, and Windows, but it is now being added to the Android operating system through Samsung's One UI software.
The details
The partial screen recording feature was first spotted in a One UI 8.5 beta test build back in October 2025. Now, it has been officially rolled out to Galaxy S25 users as part of the ongoing One UI 8.5 beta program. When starting a screen recording, the software gives users the option to record the full screen or just a selected section. If the partial recording option is chosen, the phone will attempt to automatically identify the relevant area to capture, but users can also manually define the recording region.

What’s next
One UI 8.5 with the partial screen recording feature is expected to launch in stable form on the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, which will be unveiled at a Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco on February 25, 2026. Availability for older Galaxy devices will follow after the initial S26 release.
The takeaway
Samsung's addition of partial screen recording to its One UI software shows the company's commitment to providing useful features and customization options for its Galaxy smartphone users. This capability, previously only available on other platforms, is now being integrated directly into the Android experience for Samsung's flagship devices.
