Ferrari has officially named its first battery-electric vehicle the 'Luce', which means 'light' in Italian. The Luce will deliver over 1,000 horsepower and can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 2.5 seconds. Ferrari teamed up with designer Jony Ive and his firm LoveFrom to create the Luce's cutting-edge interior, which features a binnacle with three dial gauges, a thin three-spoke steering wheel, and an iPad-style infotainment screen with unique features like a watch dial and aircraft-style toggle switches.
Why it matters
The Luce represents Ferrari's first foray into the electric vehicle market, a move that threatens to undo decades of the brand's internal combustion-based individualism. Ferrari's collaboration with Jony Ive signals the automaker's commitment to delivering an EV that is both technologically advanced and true to the brand's heritage.
The details
The Luce's binnacle features three dial gauges with digital and analog interfaces, requiring eight layers of computers, OLED material, and custom-built glare-resistant glass. The steering wheel takes inspiration from Ferrari's past but incorporates modern safety features. The center console houses an iPad-style infotainment screen that can rotate toward the driver or passenger and includes unique features like a watch dial and aircraft-style toggle switches. The center console also features a compact, upside-down-L-shaped shifter made of hardened glass with hidden illumination.
- Ferrari officially named the vehicle the 'Luce' in February 2026.
- Ferrari and Jony Ive's firm LoveFrom have been collaborating on the Luce's design for over five years.
