Ferrari has revealed more details about the electric vehicle it has been developing in collaboration with former Apple design chief Jony Ive and his creative collective LoveFrom. The interior of the new Luce EV features a design that leans heavily into Ive's familiar aesthetic, with rounded forms, aluminum, and glass throughout the cabin. Notably, the Luce embraces physical controls and tactile elements, bucking the trend towards sprawling touchscreens in many modern EVs.
Why it matters
The Luce represents a unique collaboration between one of the world's most iconic automotive brands and a legendary industrial designer, offering a glimpse into the future of luxury electric vehicles. Ive's involvement also raises questions about what Apple's own electric car might have looked like had the company's long-rumored project not been abandoned.
The details
The Luce features dozens of physical buttons, levers, and knobs made of aluminum and glass, including a glass gear-shift handle in the center console. The aluminum air vents can be twisted open and closed, and the car even comes with a rectangular glass key fob featuring an e-ink display. The vehicle's digital displays, including the binnacle behind the steering wheel and a central control panel that can swivel, use Samsung OLED screens.
- Ferrari first showcased the Luce's underlying technology in October 2025.
- The company unveiled the interior of the Luce on February 9, 2026.
- Ferrari plans to debut the exterior of the Luce in May 2026.
The players
Jony Ive
The former chief design officer at Apple, who played a major role in the design of the company's most iconic products. Ive founded the creative collective LoveFrom in 2019 after leaving Apple.
Ferrari
The Italian luxury sports car company that has been working on the Luce EV in collaboration with Jony Ive and LoveFrom for the past five years.
LoveFrom
The creative collective founded by Jony Ive after he left Apple, which has been working with Ferrari on the design of the Luce EV.
Sam Altman
The CEO of OpenAI, which acquired Ive's AI device startup io for $6.5 billion in 2025.
Corning
The company that produced the glass components used in the Luce's interior, including the glass gear-shift handle and key fob.
What they’re saying
“If the power source is electric, why does it follow that the interface be digital? I think that's a bizarre and lazy assumption. I think particularly as the power source affords an incredible set of opportunities, we are missing some things we love about our old Ferraris.”
— Jony Ive (Bloomberg)
What’s next
Ferrari plans to debut the exterior design of the Luce EV in May 2026.
The takeaway
The Luce represents a unique collaboration between Ferrari and legendary designer Jony Ive, blending the Italian automaker's heritage with Ive's distinctive aesthetic. The interior's embrace of physical controls and tactile elements offers a refreshing counterpoint to the increasingly digital interfaces found in many modern electric vehicles.
