Former Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly, who starred at St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's class of 2026. Kuechly was one of 15 modern-era player finalists for the 2026 class, along with former Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Willie Anderson. Neither Anderson nor former Bengals quarterback Ken Anderson, who was a finalist among contributors, coaches and senior players, were ultimately elected.
Why it matters
Kuechly's election to the Hall of Fame is a major accomplishment for the Cincinnati native, who was a dominant force during his eight seasons with the Panthers. His induction highlights the continued pipeline of top football talent coming out of the Cincinnati area and the state of Ohio.
The details
Kuechly was revealed as part of the 2026 Hall of Fame class during the NFL Honors show in San Francisco. Modern-era players require a minimum positive vote of 80% from the selection committee to be elected. The Panthers had previously retired Kuechly's No. 59 jersey that he wore throughout his playing career before announcing his retirement in January 2020.
