Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has launched free Wi-Fi connectivity at five of its busiest train stations, including Civic Center, Embarcadero, Powell Street, San Francisco International Airport, and West Oakland. The rollout is timed to coincide with the influx of Super Bowl LX fans and residents, with plans to expand the service to all BART stations over the next two years.
Why it matters
Providing free Wi-Fi at major transit hubs is expected to enhance the customer experience for BART riders, especially during high-traffic events like the Super Bowl. The connectivity will allow passengers to stay connected, access information, and potentially reduce congestion on cellular networks.
The details
BART's new Wi-Fi service is powered by Boldyn Networks and offers 20-minute sessions with no password or email required. The agency prioritized the SFO and Powell Street stations due to the anticipated increase in Super Bowl-related traffic. BART noted that the Wi-Fi rollout comes at no cost to the agency, as Boldyn Networks will share telecom revenue generated on BART property, estimated at $200 million over 20 years.
- BART launched the free Wi-Fi service on February 4, 2026.
- The next stations slated to receive Wi-Fi connectivity are 16th Street, 24th Street, Balboa Park, Glen Park, and Daly City, expected to be online by June 2026.
- BART aims to have Wi-Fi connectivity at all stations by early 2028.
