EFF Launches 'Encrypt It Already' Campaign to Demand End-to-End Encryption
Nonprofit calls on major tech companies to better protect user privacy through encryption

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has launched a new campaign called "Encrypt It Already" that pushes six major tech companies - Meta, Apple, Google, Bluesky, Telegram, and Ring - to implement end-to-end encryption features to better protect user privacy and data. EFF is asking users to voice their support for these encryption features through the campaign website and by contacting the companies directly.
Why it matters
End-to-end encryption is considered the best tool to keep digital communications and data secure, as it prevents even service providers from accessing the contents. However, this feature remains rare across many popular tech platforms, despite growing calls for stronger user privacy protections.
The details
The EFF campaign follows the organization's previous "Fix It Already" effort in 2019 that led to privacy improvements on services like Venmo, WhatsApp, and Slack. This new "Encrypt It Already" push is asking the six targeted companies to either deliver on previously announced end-to-end encryption features, enable existing encryption by default, or launch new encryption capabilities they currently lack.
