Christian St. Croix named first artist ambassador for San Diego Theatre Month

Theatre Month offers discounted tickets starting at $15 for a range of plays, musicals and performances across San Diego in March.

Published on Mar. 3, 2026

For the first time, San Diego Theatre Month has an official artist ambassador in award-winning playwright Christian St. Croix. As the inaugural ambassador, St. Croix is personally promoting the San Diego Performing Arts League's (SDPAL) initiative to provide affordable, accessible theater to local audiences throughout March. Theatre Month features discounted tickets starting at $15 for a variety of traditional plays and musicals, as well as improv shows, dance concerts and musical acts.

Why it matters

Theatre Month aims to encourage San Diego audiences, both longtime theater-goers and newcomers, to rediscover and explore the diverse performing arts offerings in the city. With many production companies still recovering from the impacts of COVID-19, the increased attendance and revenue generated during Theatre Month can make a significant difference in allowing theaters to maintain their planned seasons.

The details

As the Theatre Month ambassador, St. Croix hopes to inspire San Diegans to "find" theater again if they've fallen out of love with it, as well as encourage those unfamiliar with the local performing arts scene to "take a chance on a new show." St. Croix, a playwright raised in Sacramento with little early exposure to theater, had a career-changing commission from Scripps Ranch Theatre that led to his acclaimed play "Monsters of the American Cinemas." He appreciates San Diego's openness to experimentation and unique storytelling in the theater world.

  • Theatre Month runs throughout March 2026.
  • St. Croix's play "Monsters of the American Cinemas" will be performed at Alley Rep Theatre in Boise, Idaho and Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill, N.Y. in the next two months.

What they’re saying

“I'm hoping to encourage San Diego audiences to, if they already love theater and (have) found themselves falling out of love with theater, to find it again. And then also encourage people who do not know theater that well, to take a chance on a new show … and see what's out there and the different types of theater that San Diego can provide.”
