Published on Feb. 24, 2026

The San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition is providing free and low-cost spay or neuter surgeries on Wednesday, February 26th, as part of Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. The event will be held at the San Diego Humane Society's office from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., with procedures conducted by both the Humane Society and the county Department of Animal Services.

Why it matters

Spay and neuter programs help reduce the number of unwanted pets and lower euthanasia rates in animal shelters. This event aims to make these important procedures accessible to more pet owners, especially those with limited financial means.

The details

The San Diego Humane Society received a $10,000 donation to provide 50 free appointments to families earning less than $100,000 per year. Once those spots are filled, additional appointments will be offered at a discounted rate. Licenses and rabies vaccinations are required for dogs in participating jurisdictions, and other services may have separate costs.
