Several new Italian restaurants and food businesses have opened or relocated in the San Diego area in recent months. Buon Cibo, a Sicily-inspired deli, sandwich shop, wine bar, café and market, opened in Miramar Ranch North. Romanissimo, a Rome-inspired Italian restaurant and bar, has moved to a larger space in the Gaslamp Quarter. Amuri Italian Cuisine, which specializes in Sicilian cuisine, has opened in the Scripps Highlands community. And Pizza Guys, a Sacramento-based pizzeria chain, has arrived in Mission Valley.
Why it matters
The opening and relocation of these Italian eateries reflects the continued demand for authentic and diverse Italian cuisine in the San Diego region. As the city's dining scene evolves, these new establishments offer residents and visitors more options to explore the flavors of Italy, from Sicilian specialties to Roman-style pizza.
The details
Buon Cibo Italian Specialties is the dream project of Tom Tarantino, one of the original co-founders of RoVino Rotisserie + Wine in Little Italy. Tarantino's grandparents immigrated to San Diego from Sicily in the early 1900s, and he has decorated the wine room at Buon Cibo to resemble a Porticello streetscape. The new deli and market offers a wide range of imported Italian groceries, as well as deli salads, ravioli, desserts, charcuterie, and Roman-style pinsa flatbreads. Romanissimo, a Rome-inspired Italian restaurant and bar, has relocated to a larger space in the Gaslamp Quarter after the previous building was sold. The new location allows the restaurant to expand its menu with dishes like burrata caprese salad, spaghetti carbonara, and pinza la mortazza. Amuri Italian Cuisine, which specializes in Sicilian cuisine, has opened in the Scripps Highlands community. Helmed by chef Simone Tumminia, the restaurant offers traditional Sicilian-style bruschette, pizza, pastas, cioppino, seafood, chicken, and vegetable dishes. Pizza Guys, a Sacramento-based pizzeria chain, has arrived in San Diego's Mission Valley neighborhood. The chain was recently ranked the second-best pizzeria on Yelp's 2025 list.
