The Phoenix Suns are expected to sign forward CJ Huntley to a two-way contract, according to Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro. Huntley, a 6-foot-11 rookie out of Appalachian State, previously had a two-way deal with the Suns earlier this season before being waived in November. He has been playing in the G League for the Valley Suns, averaging 14.8 points on 62.1% shooting, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1.2 blocks per game.
Why it matters
The Suns are looking to bolster their frontcourt depth with the addition of Huntley on a two-way contract. As the team pushes for a playoff spot, having a young, talented big man like Huntley available on a flexible two-way deal could provide valuable minutes and production off the bench.
The details
Huntley returns to the two-way slot after being waived by Phoenix in November upon the arrival of guard Jamaree Bouyea, whose two-way deal was converted to a standard contract. Huntley then went on to play for the G League Valley Suns, where he has been putting up impressive numbers. The Suns currently have Isaiah Livers and rookie Koby Brea on their other two-way contracts.
