Free Youth Heart Screening Set For March 22

Event aims to identify undiagnosed heart conditions in young people

Jan. 29, 2026 at 2:47am

The Kyle J. Taylor Foundation, UC Davis Health, and Project ADAM Sacramento are hosting a free youth heart screening event on March 22 at Rio Americano High School in Sacramento. The screening is open to those ages 12 to 25 and includes a cardiac risk assessment, electrocardiogram (EKG), and physician review, with echocardiograms performed if recommended.

Why it matters

One in 300 youth has an undiagnosed heart condition that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest, which can occur without warning during physical activity. Annual physicals and sports exams often miss up to 90% of these issues, making targeted screenings like this critical for identifying at-risk youth.

The details

The free screening takes about 40 minutes to complete and includes an EKG, which records the heart's electrical activity, as well as an opportunity for on-site physicians to recommend echocardiograms for further evaluation. The goal is to help prevent sudden cardiac arrest in children and young adults, which can occur without warning during sporting events.

  • The free screening will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
