Box has announced the general availability of the Box Agent, an AI-powered capability that can understand natural language instructions and autonomously execute complex tasks across an organization's content library. The Box Agent leverages advanced AI models to search files, analyze data, and generate new content, all while respecting enterprise-grade security and permissions controls. Box also unveiled enhancements to Box AI Studio, allowing admins to build custom AI agents tailored to specific business workflows.
Why it matters
As enterprises increasingly look to harness AI to streamline operations, the success of these efforts depends on the AI's ability to understand the unique context of an organization's content. The Box Agent aims to bridge this gap by bringing AI directly to the unstructured data that powers business processes, enabling teams to automate high-stakes tasks like contract review, invoice processing, and RFP response generation.
The details
The Box Agent can autonomously search an organization's content, extract key insights, and generate new documents based on natural language prompts. It can compare contracts against standard terms, process invoices and vendor records, create personalized onboarding schedules, and draft on-brand marketing assets. Box has also enhanced its Box AI Studio to allow admins to build custom AI agents tailored to specific business rules and data sets, enabling enterprises to operationalize their expertise at scale.
- The Box Agent is generally available starting today, April 2, 2026.
- The ability to generate new files in formats like Word, PDF, and PowerPoint is currently in beta for Enterprise Advanced customers.
