The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) have unanimously adopted Plan Bay Area 2050+, the region's long-range plan for transportation, housing, economic resiliency and environmental sustainability through 2050. The plan, developed with input from over 17,600 residents, lays out 35 strategies to make the nine-county Bay Area more affordable, connected, diverse, healthy and economically vibrant for all.

Why it matters

As the Bay Area faces rising costs, widening inequality and persistent housing shortages, Plan Bay Area 2050+ aims to chart a course for a more equitable future with greater access to opportunity and a better quality of life for all residents. The plan also has a major focus on climate change resilience, including strategies to protect against hazards like sea level rise and wildfires.

Plan Bay Area 2050+ includes policies and investments to reduce the cost of living, construct more affordable housing, improve public transit with a focus on Equity Priority Communities, and build resilience against climate change threats. The plan was developed through a nearly three-year process with extensive community engagement.
