A new survey from Houzz Inc. found that demand for residential renovations remains resilient, with over 90% of homeowners saying they will move forward with planned projects in 2026. The survey found that homeowners are committed to their current homes and renovating to meet their changing needs, despite economic challenges like inflation and rising costs.
Why it matters
The findings suggest that long-term structural trends, such as growing home equity and a shortage of housing supply, continue to support renovation activity even as homeowners navigate economic uncertainties. This resilience in the home renovation market has implications for businesses and professionals serving this industry.
The details
According to the 2026 U.S. Houzz Renovations Plans Report, 67% of homeowners planning renovations will keep or expand their project scope as originally planned. Looking back on 2025, 44% completed renovation projects, 42% are in the midst of or about to start their project, and only 14% delayed or canceled. The top reasons cited for delays or cancellations were that projects were not considered urgent (37%) or that timing was not ideal (30%). Other concerns included high prices (17%), budget constraints (17%) and economic uncertainty (16%).
