An Extreme Heat Warning has been posted for the Coachella Valley from Wednesday through Saturday, with high temperatures expected to exceed 105 degrees each day. The Valley will see plenty of sunshine, very low relative humidity, and above-normal high temperatures just above 100 degrees on Tuesday. As an expanding upper-level ridge of high pressure centers itself over Southern California, Valley midday temps are expected to peak anywhere between 105 and 109 degrees on Wednesday through Saturday.
Why it matters
The extreme heat poses a significant risk to public health and safety, especially for vulnerable populations. New high temperature records are expected to be set each day this week, not only in the Coachella Valley but across much of the Southwest.
The details
The expanding upper-level ridge of high pressure will lead to clear skies, light winds, and low dew points of around 30 degrees each afternoon from Wednesday through Saturday. While a weakening trough of low pressure next Monday will slightly pull down the temperatures, the relief is expected to be minimal.
