The Ontario Reign defeated the Tucson Roadrunners 5-3 on Sunday night in front of 3,792 fans at the Tucson Convention Center, completing a two-game series sweep. Jared Wright scored a pair of goals, including a short-handed goal late in the second period and an empty-net score in the final minute, to lead the Reign. Andre Lee also had a three-point game with two goals, including one on the power-play, while Martin Chromiak tallied a power-play score and an assist.
Why it matters
The victory extends the Reign's lead atop the standings as they continue their push for the playoffs. The Roadrunners, meanwhile, remain in the middle of the pack in the standings and will need to regroup after the tough home loss.
The details
Ontario held a 1-0 lead after the first period on Lee's opening goal. The Reign then scored three times in the second period, including two power-play goals, to take a 4-2 lead into the final frame. Tucson pulled within one late in the third, but Wright's empty-netter sealed the win for Ontario. The Reign finished 2-for-5 on the power-play, while the Roadrunners were 1-for-3.
