Nashormeh Lindo was born and raised in Philadelphia, and received her B.A. in art from Pennsylvania State University in 1976 and her Masters of Science degree in museum leadership from Bank Street College of Education in 1994. She is currently a dual title PhD Candidate in Art Education and African American and Diasporan Studies at Penn State University. Nashormeh has taught art classes to children in Oakland and was a former adjunct instructor of African American Art History at City College of San Francisco. She has also consulted for various art museums and cultural institutions, and served as the Manager of Educational Programs for the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at New York Public Library and Coordinator of Community Services at the Baltimore Museum of Art. In addition, Nashormeh was appointed to the California Arts Council by Governor Jerry Brown in 2014 and 2017, and served as the Vice Chair and then Chair of the Council from 2016 to 2021.
