Nevada City to Host Town Hall on Open Space Fuels Treatment Plan

Community invited to review vegetation management activities and timeline for wildfire risk reduction projects.

Published on Feb. 27, 2026

The City of Nevada City is inviting residents to attend an upcoming town hall meeting to review the fuels treatment plan and prescription for three City-owned open space parcels: Old Airport, Sugarloaf, and Hirshman's Pond. The implementation of this project is planned to begin soon after the town hall.

Why it matters

This work is primarily funded through Measure C, a 0.5% sales tax approved by Nevada City voters to support wildfire risk reduction and community resilience efforts. The projects are identified in the Nevada City Community Wildfire Protection Plan and reflect the city's continued commitment to reducing wildfire risk and strengthening community safety.

The details

During the town hall, city staff and the project's contracted Registered Professional Forester will present the treatment prescription, including the types of vegetation management activities planned, project timeline, and anticipated outcomes. The Fire Safety Advisory Committee has ranked this project as a high priority, second only to the Deer Creek Southside Fuels Project.

  • The town hall meeting will be held at 6:00pm on Thursday, March 5th, 2026.
  • Project implementation is planned to begin soon after the town hall.
